When did you start loving sneakers?
When I got my first pair of red adidas gazelles when I was about 12, and they were my favorite pair of trainers for years. Well I wore the red gazelles till they tore and didn’t fit any more. I remember walking down the street when I first got them and I just thought I was so cool (I was only 12, yeah?). I made them let me wear them as soon as I’d bought them. They just felt amazing.

What does your family think about you being a sneaker fiend?
My mum thinks I’m insane! She walked in my room the other day and I was just sat there staring at my new Missy Elliott Attitude Lo’s. I’d placed them on the box and I was just looking at them, like they were a work of art, she was laughing for ages…
Describe the life of a pair of your sneakers?
I tend not to retire them. I really can’t bring myself to throw them out a lot of the time. What usually happens is I’ll buy a fresh pair, often change the laces to thick white ones and then not wear them for about 2 months. I tend to spend a long time just admiring them. I have a shelf with a neon light above it and YES I KEEP THEM UNDER THERE. I swear to god I’m psychotic!

What do you do if a good sneaker has something bad happen to it?
Hmmm. This reminds me of when I’d just got my high top green nike dunks signed by M.I.A. and I went outside only to find it raining. I was so terrified that the signature would wash off I took them off and walked through the city center barefoot and held them under my jacket. It was worth it though!

Who had the greatest impact on you being a sneaker fiend?
What made a great impact on me was reading up on the historical side of sneakers and finding out about what were called “Trainer tribes”. The run DMC era and the hip hop connections with sneakers. I also enjoyed finding out about the “casuals”, which were England based football fans who were obsessional about footwear and had to have the latest pairs. It was a part of history I found very interesting and made a really big impression on me, making me realize the significance that sneakers could have.
Do you think it’s different being a FEMALE sneaker fiend? How so?
Originally sneakers were a male phenomenon and when looking at the history of sneakers, there is little mention of women at all. Personally I love putting boys to shame. I think other girls I know seem to like the sneaker collection obsession, and I’ve noticed some of my own friends taking more time choosing them and feeling a little more pride in their pair.

How does your age / race / sexual orientation impact your being a sneaker fiend?
Well I’m all small white middle class blonde girl and I wear these massive fresh dunks with a completely random outfit, I like to mix things up with my trainers, I think it brings out my sense of humour more than anything. I’d hate for people to think I take myself and fashion sense seriously, but my trainers now that’s different…
What other questions should I ask?
Would we really prefer it if there were more of us or do we prefer being a select breed?
What kinds of stuff would you like to see on my website?
The whole fashion element which goes with the sneakers. The caps, old skool adidas track tops, boomboxes, vintage nike, I just love all of it
