How Loca started matching her outfits and sneakers (in middle school)
Loca: These sneakers…they were Nike cross trainers, and they were like white, okay, they were all white. And they had trimming of this purplish color, red, and yellow. Or something, I don’t know.
You matched em?? Or that was prematching?
Loca: Laughs. So like, yea, I guess I did sort of kind of try to match it because I did, I remember this one outfit (laughs), I had hunter green pants, and then I had like a Mickey and his friends t-shirt. Yea, it had like, Donald’s beak was yellow, you know Mickey had red or whatever, but it was like a weird red, it wasn’t a red-red, but sort of maroonish type red. But yea…

Some tips on matching…
Loca, I was at the mall and I saw these green and gold sneakers, on sale, and I’m like, green and gold, okay, I could wear this green and gold sweatshirt, and I could wear the Oakland A’s jersey that I had borrowed your shoelaces for. But is it worth it?
Yea.
I only have, like two outfits I could wear them with. So I passed them by.
They’re just green and gold? They didn’t have any white on them? I feel like if any sneaker has white in it, that has way more flexibility! If it has white and black, no, not kicking it. But if it has white…
But the new Kevin Garnetts, they have white and black, and blue, but they’re pretty.
But they’re hard to match….You know, like if those sneakers have white, gold, and green…you could just wear white and green, or white and gold, and still match your sneakers…

Some thoughts on laces…
I think I have sneakers that other people don’t have, but then I think I have sneakers that other people do have, like obviously my uptowns, but I try to rock them different…than how other people would rock them.
And I also give you credit, because I think you were the first person in the teen center who rocked them a lot with different color shoelaces, which I think is a great way to make matching your sneakers more affordable, than these girls who have to go out and buy every color.
Yea, which now, I freaking hate it, because now I see some yellow and white sneakers, and I’m like, why would I buy yellow and white sneakers when I have yellow shoelaces at home!? I get so irritated! Laughs.
Speaking of laces, what’s up with that skipping style?
You know what? Laughs. I don’t even like, I don’t even sit there and like make shit up. I just saw it. You know how when you buy sneakers, they lace up the beginning of it, and the rest of it is like inside or whatever. And then when I was buying my white uptowns, like a couple years ago or something, the guy gave it to me, and just opened the sneakers. And I put my foot in there, and tied it up, and that’s the way it was. And I was like, ‘Oh, that looks kind of dope.’ I just left it like that, I didn’t change it, move it around, nothing. I just left it like that. I was like, ‘Okay, this is the way I’m wearing my sneakers.’
