I don't think everyone who asks for a "gift" payment should be considered a scammer.. I think it should be determined on a case by case basis.. I've requested/used it a few times on other forums without a problem. I've also had to refund a person $280 that was sent to me as a gift.. I think it should be considered if the person has an excellent track record because obviously you wouldn't send a gift payment to someone with no sales history... I think it's more so an attempt to cut costs down.. even if some consider the extra 4-5% minimal..

Even I have heard of Gift Scam and it is important to check overpayment Scams. If you are about to sell some valuable thing than ask the buyer to write the check of the correct amount. Scams most probably are due to winnings from a lottery. Always know to whom you are dealing to.

There's also a possible way to get your money back when using a gift via Paypal. As you can file a unauthorized transaction with Paypal and from there on it is 50/50 on whether you get your money back from there.
